We've been having a good summer. It has been hot, hot, hot. The hottest summer I've ever had. We've had many, many over 100 degree days so far and we haven't even reached August, which is usually when we get over 100 degrees (I mean you don't call Texas in June mild, but usually it is hanging out in the low 90's, not this summer). This extraordinary weather has limited our already limited summer options.
No, in Texas you don't hike or camp or play at the playground in the summer. It's too hot. The only thing you can do is stay inside or go swimming. I like to think of it as our Texas blizzard. If we lived in New Hampshire, we would be forced indoors for several months in the winter except for some winter sports. That is how I think of it in Texas. We are forced indoors for several months except for some water sports. (Actually, the kids played outside after dinner one night last week. It was only 88 DEGREES! It felt wonderful.)
So we've done a lot of swimming. But now, even the swimming has gotten old. So now we are inviting friends over, doing some library events and just keeping busy at home.
I'm posting a funny photo of Adam. I was checking on the kids before I went to bed and looked into the boys room. Adam's bed was empty. Oh no! Where is Adam? I check the floor. (sometimes he falls asleep on the ground). No Adam. I check Phoenix's bed. No Adam. Then I pan around the room and finally see him asleep on his changing table. Yes, his changing table.
