Dino Tracks

Texas has many hidden treasures and we found one of them recently.  There is a Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas (3 hours away from us) where there is a variety of dinosaur tracks to see and not see (some have been removed).  But we heard about some dinosaur tracks right here, not 15 minutes from my house.  So my mom-in-law, kids, and me hopped into the car to check them out.  We had some directions, but we had to ask someone anyways because there are NO signs informing you of these awesome features.

A short hike down to the river bed and there we were.  The stream was running very high, due to all the recent rain and so we were carefully navigating our way to explore and then we saw it.

It was underwater just a few inches.  It was a little longer than my foot.  Then we saw maybe 5 more.  Pretty amazing.
The other cool thing there was the layers of really soft rock (limestone?).  You could just snap these big rocks in half.
We brought swimsuits and towels but it was still a bit too cold for that.
The first dino track was just to the left of where Heidi is standing in the above photo.
Normally, the water is much lower and you can play in the river and catch little fish, I've heard.  But this river was running so fast that I didn't let the kids go in past their ankles.  We'll have to go back in the summer and try it again.
